If you’re a person who has so many ideas, but you aren’t able to actually accomplish any of them, then this blog is for you. Today I want to share with you how to organize your ideas.

Having ideas is such a great thing in business. They’re flowing, you’re getting excited, and you’re working on something for your business. The next thing you know, more ideas come and you think about how you can expand into a podcast. You can create blog videos, a membership, a course and you could have a freebie download. So many ideas.

It’s amazing to be so excited about your intentions for your business, and that’s exactly how you accomplish things. Yet, you might not be feeling so accomplished because you have no idea how to organize your ideas

What if I’m Not Good at Organizing?

Many creative people won’t say that organization is a strength they have. We all have strengths and weaknesses and so a lot of people who have struggled with getting things done and being organized, often beat themselves up for it. They feel bad about it, and they feel unsuccessful. That’s just not true. Being a super creative person is such a success on its own. You have the ability to think beyond the present and to visualize beyond your wildest dreams.

Let me tell you, of all the clients I work with, the people who aren’t able to do that are the ones who struggle with being successful. So the fact that you as a creative are able to visualize that and are excited about your ideas is half the battle. So congratulations to you for having that enthusiasm!

Now, let me help you use it in a way that you can help grow your business. I want to introduce one of my ideas to get organized – a concept called the backlog.

What is a Backlog?

A lot of us use lists to keep track of things that we need to get done. I often have an in-progress note and a completed note. I’ll move things from the list of what I want to get done, to what I have gotten done, and that’s a great strategy to use. Now, I’m introducing to you the idea of a backlog note. This is a great strategy to help manage your ideas. When you have a lot of ideas that are flowing, be sure you’re writing them down somewhere. Then you can work on achieving them and kind of map out what it would look like.

The backlog list is all those other super awesome, creative, amazing ideas that come to you as you’re working on something. I have a client who had a great idea for a membership and then she started thinking about a podcast, a clubhouse, and speaking events. And these are all awesome ideas. But the more ideas we have, sometimes we struggle with getting just one thing done.

Why is it Important to Organize Your Ideas?

To move forward in business we just need to have one idea. And then we send it out there and test it. So for all those other awesome ideas you have, create yourself a backlog list and put those ideas on the backlog list. This backlog list can be on your phone, in a journal, or even a Word document. And you don’t have to call it a backlog. Call it whatever inspires you.

I use my backlog list as my creative space. I add all the ideas that I’m thinking about that aren’t the top priority right now. If I worked on them, they may prevent me from achieving a goal that I’ve already set. So for that reason, I put them on my backlog list. Now when I go back to look at the backlog list, I find all of my other ideas.

Sometimes you’ll be able to reprioritize your items on the backlog because you’ll already have accomplished some goals. You’ll realize that maybe one thing isn’t as high of a priority as you thought. So using a backlog list is a great strategy to help you get organized with your ideas and your creativity. That’s your power juice that helps you move forward in creating your wildly successful business.

What is the Importance of a Backlog List?

When you need a place to put your future ideas, put them on your backlog list and then focus your energy back on your in-progress list and what you want to get done right now. Sometimes if you’re losing steam on something you’re working on, knowing that you have that backlog list can keep you motivated.

To summarize, if you’re wondering how to organize your ideas, try starting a backlog. If you have lots of ideas, and struggle with getting things done, use a backlog for yourself and add all of the ideas that are flowing for you there.

I would love to coach you to build your business to its fullest potential.
